Omar Mouneimne Stade Francais defence coach- Omar leaves Sharks for SF

Natal Sharks defence coach Omar Mouneimne has been released from his contract in Durban after he agreed to take up an assignment with Stade Francais. The much travelled Mouneimne had a fantastic impact on the Sharks this year in Super Rugby (they went from being one of the worst defensive sides in SR 2015 to being one of the best in 2016), but has now agreed to return to the Northern Hemisphere.

Under Mouneimne, the Sharks conceded only 20 tries in 12 games before the international break (and 16 in 4 after the break), and were the best defensive side going into the Super Rugby playoffs. Continue reading “Omar Mouneimne Stade Francais defence coach- Omar leaves Sharks for SF”

Jeremy Ward to the Sharks? Natal sign Baby Bok centre

If reports are to be believed, the Sharks have signed young centre Jeremy Ward from Eastern Province. Ward was captain of the South Africa U20 side at this year’s Championships, and also made a few appearances for the Kings in Super Rugby.

Ward’s signing is a timely one, given that the Sharks have just lost outside centre Paul Jordaan to La Rochelle.

With Ward and Curwin Bosch on their books, Natal now have two of the brightest U20 talents in the country on their roster.

Ward’s exit is another in the long list of talented youngsters to leave EP, with Aidon Davis (Toulon), Thembelani Bholi (Free State), Shane Gates (Japan) and James Hall (Oyonnax) also moving from Port Elizabeth at the conclusion of the 2016 Super season.

Gary Teichmann new Sharks CEO?- Teich to replace John Smit?

It’s public knowledge that John Smit will not be seeking an extension to his tenure as Natal Sharks CEO, but more interesting are the rumours floating around Kings Park that another club legend and skipper (albeit with more business experience!) in Gary Teichmann will take over from Smit.

There’s been a fair bit of controversy at the Tank recently, with former CEO Brian van Zyl accusing Graham MacKenzie and the Sharks board of mismanagement. Continue reading “Gary Teichmann new Sharks CEO?- Teich to replace John Smit?”

Paul Jordaan to La Rochelle? Midfielder to leave Sharks

In what appears to be a major blow to the Sharks, midfielder Paul Jordaan is expected to leave the Durban based outfit for French side La Rochelle after Super Rugby. The 24 year old Jordaan, who can also play at wing, was a very talented junior, but hasn’t quite been able to translate it into a Bok call up, with injuries preventing him from having a consistent run at Super Rugby level.

Jordaan joins the likes of Marcell Coetzee (Ulster) and JP Pietersen (Leicester Tigers) in the list of major players to leave Durban at the conclusion of this season’s Super season. Continue reading “Paul Jordaan to La Rochelle? Midfielder to leave Sharks”
