An example of law 10.2 (c) in action during the recent Top 14 game between Montpellier and La Rochelle. Montpellier’s Frans Steyn missed a decisive penalty as his effort struck the bar, but in the ensuing moments, La Rochelle panicked and a player threw the ball over the dead ball line, resulting in a penalty being awarded to MHRC, which Ben Botica duly converted. The Sharks have announced the signing of flanker Jacques Vermeulen from Western Province. The former Baby Bok, who represented South Africa at the 2014 JWC tournament, is one of several major signings announced by the Durban based franchise for the 2017 Super Rugby season, alongside the likes of Kobus van Wyk and Clement Poitrenaud.
The move will also re-unite Vermeulen with Baby Bok team-mates Jean-Luc and Daniel du Preez. Vermuelen played at the 2014 tournament as an injury replacement for Daniel.

If reports in Rapport are to be believed, Bok defence coach Chean Roux is set to be shown the door ahead soon, with either Pine Pienaar or JP Ferreira expected to take his place for the upcoming November internationals.
Ex-Maties coach Roux was appointed as the defensive coach of the Boks despite having never had previous experience in that position at the highest level, and they were in absolute shambles during the Rugby Championship conceding 4 tries against Argentina, three against Australia and FIFTEEN against the All Blacks Continue reading “Chean Roux to be sacked as Springbok defence coach?”
Young Sharks centre Heimar Williams has decided to retire from rugby and pursue a career as a chartered accountant. Williams, predominantly a 12, who has also been used at 13 and sometimes 10 by the Sharks, passed his ITC exam in January this year.
Williams was viewed in Durban as a useful back up player- a solid enough centre to be on the fringes of the Super Rugby squad, but wasn’t a regular starter, having first sat behind Frans Steyn and then Andre Esterhuizen in the queue.
The Sharks inside centre options are looking a little thin this moment, with Esterhuizen their only major option, but we might see Marius Louw being promoted from the junior squads. Other options at outside centre include Lukhanyo Am, Jeremy Ward and Sbura Sithole Continue reading “Heimar Williams Retires 2016- Sharks centre calls it a day”
Harlequins have announced the signing of South African flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis from Montpellier. The No.10, who is currently part of the large South African contingent at MHRC, will link up with Quins from next season. No details regarding the duration of the contract was announced.
Catrakilis was part of the Montpellier side that beat Quins in the European Challenge Cup in May earlier this year. He is a prolific goal kicker but his attacking abilities are considered to be a little limited in his native South Africa, where he has represented both the Kings and Stormers in Super Rugby Continue reading “Demetri Catrakilis to Harlequins- Flyhalf to leave Montpellier”

Munster have completed the signing of versatile Sharks prop Thomas du Toit on loan for a period of three months. Du Toit, a former Baby Bok representative, can operate on both sides of the scrum, but is said to be looking to cement his position as a tighthead and played mostly at 3 for the Sharks in the recently concluded Currie Cup.
South Africa were thin at 3 following the departure of Jannie du Plessis after the World Cup and loosehead prop (although not officially) is seen as a “coloured” position in some circles, with the likes of Beast Mtawarira, Trevor Nyakane and Lizo Gqoboka all in the running.
At tighthead prop, the Boks currently have the likes of Frans Malherbe, Julian Redelinghuys and Vincent Koch. Continue reading “Thomas du Toit to Munster- Sharks prop joins on three month loan”
