The Sharks became the first team to win in Argentina in Super Rugby this season when they got the better of the Jaguares. The reverse fixture at Kings Park earlier this season had been a tight one, and given the disastrous performance that the Sharks produced at home against the Rebels (9-9 draw that would be a sure contender for one of THE worst games in SR history), few expected them to brave the odds and win in Buenos Aires.
However, it’s become a bit of a habit for the Sharks to buck the trend in recent times- they play well against top class opposition and make a hash of games against easier teams. And that’s what precisely happened in Argentina. The Sharks were aided by some changes by coach Rob du Preez to the starting XI- starting prop Thomas du Toit had a stormer of a game (MOTM in our opinion) and veteran Michael Claassens had a better game than Cobus Reinach, whose mind unfortunately already seems to be in England Continue reading “Jaguares vs Sharks Super Rugby Review- Sharks become first side to win in Argentina in 2017”

This bad Andre Esterhuizen tackle on Naivalu saw the Sharks inside centre being sent off in their clash against the Rebels at Kings Park.
The Klerksdorp born No.12 has been an influential figure for the Sharks over the last couple of seasons after the departure of Frans Steyn and has formed a formidable centre pairing with Lukhanyo Am. He’s practically been playing non stop for the Sharks in the last year- the fans were asking for him to take a break, but perhaps not this way!
Esterhuizen has been banned for six weeks for this challenge Continue reading “Andre Esterhuizen tackle on Sefa Naivalu in Sharks-Rebels 2017 | Esterhuizen red card Video”

CJ Stander has become the first Afrikaans player to earn selection to the British and Irish Lions following his announced in the squad selected by Warren Gatland today.
Stander, a former Baby Bok skipper, was told by coach Heyneke Meyer that he was too short for a loose forward, and thus chose to move to Ireland, where he has already become a club legend of sorts at Munster and has been capped by Ireland.
Stander, while being the first Afrikaner to earn Lions selection, is not the first South African- eight other previous Saffa born players have been selected for the Lions.

Sonny Bill Williams made his return in a Blues jersey today against the Highlanders at Forsyth Barr and it appeared that he had the BNZ logo on the collar covered. Reason unknown, but perhaps Williams’ faith does not allow him to endorse banks that charge interest?.
